This work began with one very personal question:
“Should my husband go to Kabul while I stay in Switzerland with our boys?”
In 2019, my family faced the reality of a split assignment. As I began speaking to other couples and families living geographically apart for work, I realised we were not alone — and that while this lifestyle brings real challenges, there is also much that can be done to make it sustainable.
I started learning from others who had lived this way: partners, adult children of split family assignments, and experts in relationships, wellbeing, and parenting. Again and again, I found common challenges — but very little practical support available in one place.
That is what led me to write Holding the Fort Abroad, launch the Holding the Fort Podcast, and create this Resource Centre.
My goal is simple: to help families living apart for work feel seen, supported, and better equipped to navigate the emotional, relational, and practical realities of this life.
This Resource Centre is built around my 5 Pillar Framework:
Wellbeing, Partnership, Parenting, Transitions, and Emergencies — the key areas that help families build a stronger and more sustainable foundation for this lifestyle.
